Our certified installers are true automotive enthusiasts. Their work is their passion and for jobs big or small, simple or complex, there's no better way to go.
Install Included for most vehicles. Some vehicles will require additional labor. If installation needs to go into the door to be completed, Complex vehicles (Often European and many Subarus) will require substantially increased time / labor charge. Some installs require vehicle specific wire harness purchased at additional cost.
Properly soldered connections are the gold standard for any wire that has to be spliced. Remote Starts are complex systems and at Car Toys we use the highest install standards on every connection. No cheap plastic connectors.
If your vehicle is 2015 or newer, and one is available we recommend an iDatalink ADS-THR vehicle-specific harness as an additional add-on.
The iDatalink ADS-AL-CA (often called ADS-ALCA) is a popular Flashable all-in-one data interface/bypass module from Automotive Data Solutions (now part of Firstech/Compustar). It's primarily designed as an immobilizer bypass, door-lock interface, and CAN-bus integration tool for connecting to aftermarket remote start systems (like Compustar, Viper, Directed, etc.) via a single data wire (D2D/ADS protocol) or hardwired connections.
How standalone mode works:
Activation method: Almost always 3x Lock from your factory OEM key fob (press lock button 3 times).
Some firmwares also add basic keyless entry or long-range via an optional RF kit (antenna + remote).
No separate long-range 2-way remotes unless you add a compatible RF kit (e.g., Firstech/Compustar FT-RF kits).
The module handles immobilizer bypass, door locks, takeover, tach/RPM monitoring, and basic safety features itself over the vehicle's data bus.
Vehicles where standalone remote start is well-supported (2025 firmware):
Make/Group
Typical Years
Notes / Common Activation
Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram (non-Tipstart)
2005–2018-ish
3x Lock is native on many; very reliable standalone
GM (Chevy, GMC, Buick, Cadillac)
2006–2020+
Excellent support, 3x Lock or optional RF kit
Ford/Lincoln
2008–2024
Good coverage, especially PTS and non-PTS
Toyota/Lexus/Scion
2005–2023
Works on many (e.g., 4Runner, Tacoma, Camry), but push-to-start models often need a separate brain for full features
Honda/Acura
2008–2024
Solid on most, 3x Lock
Nissan/Infiniti
2007–2023
Good, especially older GTR-era keys
Subaru
2008–2024
Works well
Many others (Hyundai/Kia, Mazda, VW, etc.)
Varies
Spotty — some need hardwired triggers instead of pure standalone
Always check exact coverage at https://www.idatalink.com → Vehicle Search → Select your year/make/model → Look for firmwares labeled ADS-AL(RS)-XX-[ADS-ALCA] or similar with "Standalone remote start" in the guide.
If you want mile-range, phone app, 2-way LCD remotes, or geofencing — then pair the ADS-AL-CA with a stand alone remote start system (Compustar, Viper, etc.) instead.
