SAR (analog) (Wireless Phone Feature)
Specific absorption rate (SAR) measures electromagnetic radiation as watts of energy absorbed per kilogram of body tissue. This number represents the SAR level in analog mode. If several measurements were taken, we have included a minimum-maximum range.

SAR (digital cellular) (Wireless Phone Feature)
Specific absorption rate (SAR) measures electromagnetic radiation as watts of energy absorbed per kilogram of body tissue. This number represents the SAR level in digital mode. If several measurements were taken, we have included a minimum-maximum range.

SAR (digital PCS) (Wireless Phone Feature)
Specific absorption rate (SAR) measures electromagnetic radiation as watts of energy absorbed per kilogram of body tissue. This number represents the SAR level in PCS mode. If several measurements were taken, we have included a minimum-maximum range.

Scratchpad memory (Wireless Phone Feature)
Feature that enables you to enter a phone or pager number into the phone's temporary memory during a phone conversation, without disrupting the call.

Secret memory (Wireless Phone Feature)
The phone can be programmed to require an entry code to access certain names or phone numbers stored in memory.

Seek/Scan (Product Attribute)
Seeking or scanning through a CD or DVD, will enable you to skip from track to track, or from chapter to chapter. This button adds the option to skip past a song that you may not want to hear, or fast forward to a particular part in a song that you want to hear.

Signal strength meter (Wireless Phone Feature)
A visual display of the intensity of the wireless signal.

Signal to Noise Ratio (dB) (Product Attribute)
The ratio of the desired signal level to the level of unwanted noise. Measured in decibels.

SIM card/Smart card (Wireless Phone Feature)
Subscriber identification module (SIM) card that stores some personal information about the user, such as a directory of phone numbers and their memory locations. The card also is used to identify you to your wireless carrier.

Simplified send/end (Wireless Phone Feature)
The send and end buttons/keys are larger and prominently placed on the handset. Alternately, the phone may use a pop-up earpiece or folding microphone arm to start or end a call.

Size (H x W x D) (Wireless Phone Feature)
The height, width and depth of the phone measured in inches. Manufacturers produce wireless phones in a range of sizes. Today's smallest wireless phones measure 3.5 to five inches in height, less than two inches in width and less than one inch in depth. Older phone models - and newer phones with large displays or keypads - measure six or more inches in height, more than two inches in width and slightly more than one inch in depth.

Speakerphone/hands-free operation (Wireless Phone Feature)
A speaker and microphone that permit you to talk without using the handset.

Standby time (Wireless Phone Feature)
The length of time a battery lasts when the phone is on but not in use. In this mode, the phone does not incur airtime expense. Longer standby times mean the phone can stay on to receive calls longer without stopping to recharge the battery.

Starter Disable (Product Attribute)
Starter disable is a system that comes as optional for a lot of alarm systems on the market these days. Starter disable essentailly does what it says, disables the starter to prevent any intruder from starting your vehicle when alarm is on. If the alarm is not set then the starter disable will not work.

System select (Wireless Phone Feature)
Allows you to select a specific analog or digital PCS service provider in your home market or when roaming. Also called A/B System Selection or Intelligent Roaming, it is typically set up by your carrier or dealer when you buy your phone.
